Kelly Shannon studied architecture at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1988) and the Berlage Institute in amsterdam (1994). she’s a practising architect and has worked for several international architecture firms. In 2004 she defended her doctorate thesis ‘Rhetorics & Realities, addressing Landscape Urbanism, Three Cities in Vietnam’ at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. she’s worked at the KU Leuven since 1997, where she teaches post-graduate design studios and a seminary on landscape and urbanism. Her research is focussed on the relation between urbanism and landscape, with special attention for the fast-changing regions in south and southeast asia. shannon writes for various european journals and regularly enters international design competitions.
