
Mads Birgens trained to become architect at the School of Architecture in Aarhus, Denmark, and gained early experience working for BIG and OMA, before he joined the start-up of Cobe in 2006.
Since the early years of Cobe Mads accumulated a unique experience in strategic planning and urban design through his work. From leading competitions like Nordhavnen, Nørreport Station and North Campus in Copenhagen, to taking responsibility as Project Director overseeing a large number of projects and clients in the Nordic Region. Ranging from Deutzer Hafen in Cologne, Nyhavna in Trondheim, Science Village in Lund Sweeden, Krulli Kvartal in Estonia and a number of urban plans in the capital region of Greater Copenhagen.
Today Mads works as Head of Urbanism, and is responsible for driving the professional development of urban and strategic planning at Cobe. Mads has a visionary and future-oriented focus, and in addition to following a number of projects on a dayli basis, he works in a cross disciplinary team of Urbanism, Lands-cape and Architecture to stregthen thought leadership within the organization, and foster innovation and sustainability in the creative process and early phase design at Cobe.
Mads is a experienced speaker from various events of both academic and profesional character. He has lectured at Harvard GSD, The Royal Academy in Copenhagn and Universities across Europe and beyond.
