Roberto Cavallo is an associate professor in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft. Currently, he is head of the Theory, Territories, Transition section, chairman of the Architectural Design Crossovers group, member of the departmental research steering team, and guides the Architectural Pedagogy research group. From 2014 to 2019, he served as the director of education for the faculty. He completed his Ph.D. at TU Delft in 2008, was awarded the IUS promovendi in 2017, and is currently supervising several Ph.D. candidates. He holds the position of president of the European Association of Architectural Education (EAAE) and is a founding member of the Architectural Research European Network Association (ARENA). In 2013, he served as a visiting professor at the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, as well as at the Faculty of Architecture at Hong Kong University, and in 2014 at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Beijing Technical University. In the academic year 2020/2021, he held a visiting professorship at the Faculty of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.

His research encompasses various facets of architecture, particularly the interplay between infrastructures and urban transformations, as well as the role of architectural interventions, linking theory with practice and education. Since 2013, he has held the position of Built Environment Expert at the European Commission, providing valuable advice on various EU projects. His scholarly contributions have had a significant impact, with notable publications such as “The Urban Project”, “New Urban Configurations”, and a special issue of the International Journal of Technology and Design Education entitled “Architecture and Built Environment Design Education”. He has also contributed to various international exhibitions, including the Beijing Design Week, Seoul Architecture Biennale, the Triennale di Milano, and the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Prominent research projects include “Snelweg & Stad” (Highway & City) and “Stad van de Toekomst” (City of the Future), for which he received a research grant from the Helmut Hentrich Foundation in Düsseldorf. Currently, he serves as the representative of the EAAE in two Horizon Europe projects associated with the New European Bauhaus: digiNEB and NEBA Alliance. He is one of the leaders of the design-driven doctoral research projects CA2RE and CA2RE+. He also has extensive experience in policy, planning, advising, and coaching in education and research, as well as serving on national and international commissions and workgroups. Since 1999, he has been the main graduation tutor for over 150 students. Registered as a licensed architect, he has several years of practice experience and has been appointed as an expert for the Dutch Architects Registration Bureau since 2019.
